Officially Overdue.

Well, despite what everyone thought would happen, Baby C has decided to stay where he's at for now.

Yesterday I went for my 40 week appointment and my friend Robyn came along with me. I'm now 90% thinned out, which is good, and still 1-2 cm dilated. His heart rate is still good - between 130-140 BPM - and he likes to move around a lot in there. (Well, as much as he has room to.)

If I make it to my next visit, which is scheduled for next Monday Sept 27, I will have to have another ultrasound and some tests done to be sure that the fluid levels aren't getting too low for little guy in there. If everything doesn't check out, they'll be sending me across the street to the medical center to induce me right away. Even if the fluid levels and stuff looked okay, they'd still want to induce me by the end of the week anyways, since 42 weeks is the most they will allow you to go. (In other words, if he doesn't come out on his own before October 5, they're going to make him.)

So back to yesterday -- After a bit of debate we decided to go ahead and let the doctor "strip the membrane" and see if that would help to bring on labor naturally for me. (Basically what that means is they move their finger up inside the cervix in order to separate the sac the baby is in from the wall of the uterus.) Apparently this can release some sort of hormone in your body that can trigger labor and I guess usually if it's going to have any effect, you'd know usually within the next day or so. It's been about 21 hours now since I had that done and so far nothing besides being extra sore now...

After leaving the doctor's office, Robyn and I went to the gym where we walked, went up and down some stairs, and did some lunges. Then we had lunch at Zoë's Kitchen. It was a nice day.  :)

So I guess we'll see if I make it to Monday or not... I've been partially effaced and dilated some and having Braxton-Hicks and all those "pre-labor" signs for about a week and a half now, but I guess he's still not ready to come out...
